Dear Member of The Sons of Italy New Generation
Enclosed is a brochure from the Colorado Historical Society with information about Preserving Colorado Communities: The Italians of Denver, a public exhibition, at the Colorado History Museum in 2007. We are accumulating pictures, memorabilia, clothing, oral histories, etc. all of which must be catalogued, scanned into computer files, archived, transcribed, organized, numbered, labeled, and prepared for the 2007 exhibit and to create a priceless archive of information for future research. The Society is already working to expand this project from the Denver area to the entire state of Colorado. Expenses for the project are expected to be well over $100,000, most of which must be obtained from the members of our community.
This project is the first time anyone has chosen Americans of Italian descent as the subject of such an intense study. This will guarantee, that for generations to come, researchers will have a treasure chest of information provided by you and me. Even now, it is almost too late to begin this project. Those of us who knew the early immigrants and their contributions to Denver and Colorado are getting older. If we do not share our memories now, soon there will be no one to tell the story of our parents and grandparents. Therefore, I am asking you to make a contribution to this project. Please take the time to read the enclosed brochure.
Please make your tax-deductible check out to CHS: Italians of Denver. Then mail it to Treasurer, Joseph Parker as soon as possible. At that time, we will box all the checks and present them to the Historical Society’s Italian Project, in honor of family members who gave so much that we might be here today. Remember, small donations are just as welcome and appreciated as large donations. In the end we have to raise over $100,000. If we were to depend on large donations only, we might never reach our goal. Ten $10 donations gives us $100.
Sincerely, Joseph Parker
